This is the fourth book in the Travel Series and came about when the famous Cooper Creek, in South Australia’s arid north, flooded in 2010 for the first time in 20 years. The Cooper Creek and Warburton River have their origins in outback Queensland and the Cooper has only filled and flowed to Lake Eyre, 10 times since European settlement of Australia. In October, 2010, Trevor Manning (Papa Trev as he is known) and some members of the Summit Trax 4WD Club, travelled to the flooded Cooper and Warburton Rivers to experience the spectacle. “Lindsay, the Lanky Lizard”, a Secret Gully puppet, travelled with Trevor in his Nissan Patrol in company with John Pym. They experienced flooded roads, huge waterways, a unique ferry and fantastic wildlife. This book is written through Lindsay’s eyes and is meant to be informative and educational for children who are encouraged to search a map for the towns and landmarks mentioned in the book.
Lindsay is named after Trevor’s late Dad, Lindsay Manning. The book is dedicated to Boyd de Jong, Trevor and Sue’s Grandson. As with all the Travel Series books, the excellent illustrations were provided by the talented children of the Palmer Primary School, Palmer, South Australia and their teacher Elyse Watson.
